Ms. Amy Lowell (1874-1925) an american poet and winner of a posthumous pulitzer prize in 1926, found the crescent moon imagery amidst milky way inspiring enough for a poem - The Crescent Moon.
While the poem is from a perspective of a child looking at the crescent moon, to me the moon itself, emerging in crescent shape for a couple of days after its total disappearance on new moon night, appears to be smiling yet unsure - as it faces the innumerable stars around - just like a child lost amidst crowd.
A perfect setting to remember the opening lines of the all times classic song on Dev Anand & Waheeda Rahman..
